A New Change…

On March 1, 2012 I will begin to revitalize NWICreative as the new Editor-In-Chief of this site. I will take over the daily management and communications for NWICreative. The site’s mission will remain the same way its founder and creator, Adam Groom intended it to be – to provide a platform for creatives of all types to learn, share, and get connected. Adam and I have talked about the site’s future for a long time and I plan to implement new changes to help this site grow and its community develop.

I want this site to be a daily source of information that is worth reading. I want it’s contributors and readers eager to visit  the site every day. This will take some work, I’m no stranger to that, below are some exciting ideas you can expect to see this year.

  • “We Are Here” – An NWICreative curated creative source book and ebook. This book will be a collection of the Regions great talent. From print to web to video and fine art this book will showcase the best of what NWI has to offer.
  • Sketch Book Project – Ever wonder what someone’s sketch book looked like when they were working on a project. Get a behind the scenes look at the work that goes into the logos, brands and projects around nwi and beyond.
  • Studio Tours – NWICreative will partner with local studios both graphic and fine arts. You can meet the people behind closed doors; see what they are working on; what its like to design, paint or shoot in their shoes.
  • Interviews – Interviews with creatives across the country. We will ask “real” questions; not your typical “what inspires you” crap. These will be interviews from the industry’s leading creatives.
  • Student Spotlights – Nothing better then to build up our youth, from high school to college students, we will showcase the area’s best talent and the teachers that are making a difference.
  • Work’n it Wednesday’s – Show us your stuff. Lets take a peak and possibly offer a suggestion or two. Every Wednesday we will ask you to post a link to what you are currently working on. Only good things can come when a new set of eyes check out your work.

These are just the surface of what is to come this year. The goal is to get you all engaged with better opportunities to do so. Providing quality content will always be at the top of the list. With that said there are two immediate adjustments that go into effect today.

The first, if you are a registered contributor on this site then you are expected to contribute. In the past contributors have been solicited for articles, that same call for action still applies. But if you don’t contribute to the site you will not be a contributor. Contributors will now be expected to submit one (1) article a month and comment on at least one (1) post a week. If you need a topic or want help then let me know and I can pair you with another contributor and you can both submit an article. The title of contributor will not be taken lightly anymore. To be part of this community is to consume and contribute. Doing neither doesn’t make you part of this community. We only get better when everyone does their share.

The second, by posting an event on NWICreative; you now become that event’s ambassador. All events posted on NWICreative will now be expected to have a recap article with pictures, posted on the site with in a week after the event. This will give readers a better understanding of your event and grow the need of wanting to attend the next one. This also gives your event a second wave of promotion and exposure.

I look forward to being your editor and manager of NWICreative, if you have any questions about the new direction or want to contribute please contact me through the site and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Only good things to come!

I can’t wait to see the next evolution of this site. Even though this site hasn’t blossomed as much as Atom wanted it to, I will have to say that I’ve always looked forward to the updates. Add me to the list of people that are rooting for this site. And a big thanks to Atom for his vision.

Considering this is a page talking about creativity, done by persons involved in graphic design and such, it would be really nice for it to look like it rather than something pulled right out of wordpress. Looking forward to seeing where this goes with the new EiC.

    • Thanks for the feedback, its always welcomed. With the relaunch that has one thing on my mind. But I still believe content is king and that will be my main focus for the next couple months. I think the current look and feel, is simple and lets the content take center stage. I think sites with crazy headers and a million gradient thingys is not what this site will ever be about. Look forward to good things to come. Thanks!
